The Story Behind the Northern Angel
The Northern Angel came from the idea that when you feel lost, need to find your way home, look up at the sky and find the North Star.

For centuries, the North Star has been a symbol of guidance, a steady light that helps travelers find their direction when the path ahead is uncertain. I connected deeply with that idea because I believe that, in our own lives, we sometimes need a little light to guide us back.

The Angel came from my belief in the unseen. I’ve always felt there may be an ethereal presence around us, something gentle that watches over us, guides us, or reminds us that we are not alone.

The Artist

Hello, I am Kim Chan, a mixed media artist who found in art a place of peace, healing, and freedom. For me, creating does not have to be perfect. I find myself getting lost in the process.. layer after layer, texture after texture.. allowing my feelings and intuition to guide me. In those moments, I can simply be present, without worry, and cherish the experience of creating.

 

My interest in art began with the safe space I discovered within it. Art became a voice beyond words, allowing me to express feelings, experiences, and emotions that I could not always explain.
 

I am especially drawn to mystical beings, nature, and the idea of unseen companions or ethereal guides. Whether they are understood as spiritual beings, symbols, imagination, or simply something we cannot quite explain, I believe there is a sense of wonder that exists beyond what we see. I bring these elements into my work as a way of exploring that mystery and inviting viewers to discover their own meaning within each piece.

 

I work primarily in mixed media, layering oil, acrylic, and watercolor paints with natural elements such as dried florals, moss, leaves, paper, and found objects. These materials bring organic textures, depth, and character to each creation. I am particularly inspired by the transformation of natural materials, the way something delicate can be preserved, given new meaning, and become part of something lasting.

 

At the heart of my work is a desire to create pieces that evoke wonder, comfort, joy, and hope. I hope each creation offers a moment of escape.. a small invitation to pause, dream, and reconnect with the magic that can be found in both nature and within ourselves.
